Description
Laser etching has become a common sight in the sneaker world. Inspired by Tattooing, Nike’s Innovation Kitchen’s innovator Mark Smith in many ways was at the forefront of the movement in the 2000s. Smith wanted to use lasers to etch intricate designs on the uppers of shoes to turn them into works of art. The 2003 "Laser Project" developed several pairs of shoes, including the Air Force 1 Stephan Maze Georges aptly named for the artist who inspired the abstract designs that feature across the premium soft leather shoe.
Originally released in 1982, the Air Force 1 is named after the presidential aircraft. Designed by Bruce Kilgore, it was the first basketball shoe to feature revolutionary Nike Air technology. Today it remains as one of Nike’s most iconic, best selling sneakers. The Air Force 1’s ability to be the perfect blank canvas for iconic designs and collaborations has established it as one of the most desirable models for sneaker collectors.
