Description
A first edition of Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
The present example retains the first issue dust jacket, with the original price of $2.50 and the reviews by T. S. Eliot, H. L. Mencken and Paul Rosenfeld to the front flap. The rear flap lists Fitzgerald’s earlier novels, short stories and play, including The Great Gatsby and The Vegetable. With the requisite ‘A’ and seal to the copyright page and decorations by Edward Shenton.
Set against the glamour of the French Riviera, Fitzgerald’s final completed novel follows the troubled marriage of Dick and Nicole Diver. Drawing upon his experiences with Zelda, it explores wealth, emotional dependency and the collapse of youthful promise.
